Before their transfer, the military deserters who were placed under the authority of the Djiboutian government in 2008, were based at Nagad center and Ali Adheh refugee camp. According to the statement from the presidency, the move "was taken at the highest political decision making level and it demonstrates Djibouti government's humanist nature as well as opposition to attempts to stop other people from enjoying their life when they could prosper elsewhere." Djibouti and Eritrea which share a common border clashed militarily for three days in 2008 over a border conflict that still persists to date.
